I wanted something I can use for walking around town or on city breaks, but that would also work for shorter runs when I am away on holiday - hate taking an extra pair of runners when I travel! Saw these on Instagram and nearly got them previously, but I was nervous buying shoes online without trying them. But I got the chance in Berlin, and they were every bit as comfortable as I hoped. I’ll be getting others soon!
Water-repellent shoes for women
Wet feet are the worst. Seriously, if water gets into your shoes, there's no saving the good vibes - not while your feet are trapped in a muddy, soggy prison. Sure, there may be an easy solution when you're at home (e.g. by taking your shoes off ;) ), but when you're out and about - or worse, when you've just arrived at your leisure activity or workplace - the day is ruined.
What's the solution? Wear rain boots everywhere? Wrap your shoes in plastic bags? No, you just need a pair of water-repellent shoes. These are the Allbirds Mizzles. Each shoe in this collection has an OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT-certified, fluorine-free, water-repellent coating that provides reliable protection from rain and maybe even unexpected puddle splashes. That means you can dash from parking lots to stores or subway stations to offices without getting your feet wet. And with styles like our high-top runner ups, you even get added ankle protection to match your throwback style. Problem solved.
Which shoe material is best suited for rain?
We spent several years testing renewable, sustainable materials until we found a solution that's great for wet conditions while being kind to the environment: ZQ Merino wool. With fibers 20% the diameter of a human hair, our superfine merino wool is breathable and moisture-wicking, and thanks to our beloved Allbirds sheep, it's a renewable resource.
To top it all off, the wool outer fabric is treated with a breathable, water-repellent bio-based coating.
Which Allbirds models are water-repellent?
All Mizzles variants are made from a cozy wool upper and a water-repellent protective shield. This keeps your feet dry during splashy runs and wet walks in an environmentally friendly way.
Or try the Trail Runner SWTs (which stands for Sugar, Wool, Tree - the main materials of the shoe). These are our durable trail running and hiking shoes that can handle muddy, wet trails.
Does water-repellent also mean waterproof?
Unfortunately not - the material is water-repellent, but it is not completely waterproof. Water-repellent material can withstand light precipitation and the odd puddle without moisture penetrating the shoe.
Our Wool Runner Mizzles and our Trail Runner SWTs shed water and rain and keep your feet drier than other shoes. While we wouldn't recommend standing idle in a puddle for long periods of time in these shoes, they will keep you out longer in wet conditions.
What does "Mizzles" actually mean?
Mist + Dizzle = Mizzle. With the combination of cozy ZQ merino wool and a water-repellent bio-based shield, our rainproof sneaker keeps your feet reliably dry in unpredictable weather.
The absolute last thing you want in wet weather is wet, soggy feet. If you get a little wet in winter, extra protection can go a long way. Here's a free tip: all our Mizzles shoes are treated with water-repellent Puddle Guard® technology to prevent moisture from getting inside and ruining your day. Our high-heeled Wool Runner-Up Mizzles are perfect for winter and not only offer extra protection around the ankles, but are also treated with the aforementioned water repellent treatment to keep your feet dry if you ever get caught in a snowy puddle or find yourself outside in freezing winter weather. Not interested in a high-top style? Then the Wool Runner Mizzles are just the thing for you.
